David W. Shaw is the Fairbanks, Alaska-based author of over 50 articles about natural history, science, and his other passion: the art of photography. Dave’s formal education in the sciences, both bachelor’s and masters degrees in wildlife biology, and his extensive experience guiding backcountry adventures, have led to a unique perspective on the natural world and the stories it holds.
During Alaska’s brief summers he guides wilderness trips for Arctic Wild (www.arcticwild.com). He is a passionate conservationist, and a skilled naturalist, birder, and wilderness guide. As one client on a wilderness trip put it, “Dave is a big bear of a guide who inspires utter confidence.” Dave will take that as a compliment.
Check out his photography-specific site: Wild Imagination Photography for more photos and information about that side of his work.
Dave lives with his partner Amy, a dog, and a cat in a small off-grid cabin the boreal forest north of Fairbanks, Alaska.
